Abstract
To understand the continuity and changes of the CCP’s discourse and policies on Taiwan, this chapter analyzes the content of press releases of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council of China. This study found that although the CCP’s Taiwan policy of “anti-independence and promotion of unification” remains unchanged, its policy rhetoric and contents have been gradually adjusted. Among them, it is worth noting that the volume of the CCP’s “opposition to external interference” is not only increasing, but also intertwining with its position on “opposing Taiwan independence.” After the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, we expect that the CCP will prioritize the development of comprehensive national strength, to curb Taiwan independence and interference from external forces. In the work of promoting reunification, the focus will be on “promoting integration,” attracting Taiwanese to integrate into China’s national development strategy, and seeking the so-called “spiritual fit” unification. Finally, through the revision of Taiwan-related laws, the CCP intends to intensify its legal basis for the unification of Taiwan.
