Abstract
The development of national defense technology is related to the construction of the national military's combat power and planning is based on the operational thinking of "how to fight." The development of Taiwan's military technology is in response to the inseparable relationship between the perception of security threats, national defense strategy, and military planning. The development of national defense technology has two major policy goals: "meeting the needs of military construction and war preparation" and "creating industrial economic benefits". Accordingly, Taiwan's military technology development is derived from the military strategic plan, drawing on the world's national defense technology development trends, setting research and development fields with a goal in mind, cultivating national defense technology research and development capability, combining foreign and private technology industry resources, selecting key projects, and promoting weapons. Autonomous research and development of equipment enhances the combat capabilities of the troops and demonstrates Taiwan's determination to defend itself. At the same time, it promotes the development of the domestic military industry through defense investment. National defense technology represents national defense power. How to actively utilize the favorable international situation and the continuous growth of the national defense budget, carefully select the required key technologies, and promote the development of advanced weapons and equipment are important tasks that Taiwan’s military needs to undertake. Therefore, this article examines the current development of Taiwan's military technology from three aspects: the security situation across the Taiwan Strait, Taiwan's armament policy, and Taiwan's armament modernization goals.
