INDSR’s public opinion data was recently cited in an article published by The Diplomat, titled “Taiwan’s Youth Are Not Defeatist — and The Data Proves It.” The article was co-authored by Dr. Wen-Chin Wu, Research Fellow at Academia Sinica’s Institute of Political Science, and Dr. Hsin-Hsin Pan, Associate Professor of Sociology at Soochow University.

While informal online polls have occasionally portrayed Taiwanese youth as lacking the will to defend their homeland, nationally representative surveys using rigorous methodology tell a different story. The article draws on INDSR’s survey findings to demonstrate that young Taiwanese, when facing potential threats, exhibit a strong and clear commitment to defending their country. These insights highlight both their deep concern for national sovereignty and the robust civic consciousness fostered in Taiwan’s democratic society.
