Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is seen as the third revolution in warfare. In the future, weapons platforms will be smarter, more accurate, and faster, and new capabilities can be learned. Machines and machines will work together as a team, divide labor with each other, and automatically coordinate actions and follow human teammates, letting autonomous weapons perform high-risk missions to reduce human soldier casualties. In recent years, AI has been widely used in a series of application fields, and the military application is also increasing. At present, the main military applications are still in automatic driving or in enhancing operating efficiency such as C4ISR systems. However, the increasing degree of autonomy will inevitably involve the ethical issue of automatic engagement. Both China and Russia are strengthening the use of AI technology in the military. On the one hand, the United States has increased investment in AI emerging technologies, and on the other hand, it has also promoted a responsible AI development path, making AI technology a truly trusted tool. For Taiwan, the scientific and technological community is also strengthening the layout of AI technology, seizing related business opportunities, such as self-driving cars, unmanned systems, smart household appliances, etc.. Taiwan also promotes "smart national defense," but AI’ use in national defense and military needs to be accelerated to meet increasingly severe and diverse security challenges.
