Abstract
The Singaporean government has invested huge resources in nurturing its defense industry, enabling it to build up its defense capability from scratch. Based on the strong economic power of Singapore, the government established state-owned defense industry enterprises and formulated many preferential policies, which became an important foundation for the rapid development of the industry. The acquisition of weapons and equipment in Singapore is divided into two categories: outsourcing and self-manufacturing, and the sources of weapons are characterized by “complete outsourcing” and “technology transfer”, and “complete self-manufacturing” and “technology cooperation”. These efforts have enabled Singapore’s arms production and manufacturing to meet the military’s needs while achieving foreign trade results. Singapore’s unique defense industry ecosystem fosters cooperation between the military and civilian sectors under the Total Defense concept, and the Singapore model of “civil-military integration” drives technological advancement and innovation. Today, Singapore is one of the largest weapons producers in ASEAN. The thriving development of Singapore’s military industry shows that even if resources are relatively scarce, as long as full play is given to the advantages of talent, technology, and innovation, extraordinary achievements can still be made in the defense industry field.
